Words can't really capture how riveting it is. I'm still reeling. I'm still asking myself - what the Hell did I just read. It's taken me days to be able to sit down and compose some coherent thoughts I'm so affected by this story and the latest developments in On The Edge. Ms. Reiss walks the fine line between deconstruction and dismemberment as she peel back the layers of Caden and Greyson, showing us the depth and richness of these characters, and tells us the story of their marriage. On the Edge is a seemingly quiet interlude after the chaos of war which anchors the early part of the story, cocooned in the brownstone that is both refuge and house of horrors. With every stroke of the pen and revelation, the reader gasps and our fascination grows. Caden and Greyson fit together like pieces of a puzzle, but it's a puzzle that keeps shifting and changing shape, as the effects of their war time experiences are revealed. It's so complex yet the depth of their love makes it all so simple. The characters Ms. Reiss has created are so vivid, deep, complex and relatable. They burrow into your soul and haunt your dreams. In the second book of the series, the psychology becomes even richer, the sex hotter, the romance . . . hmm. Well, my heart aches for Major One More as she tries desperately to sort out her emotions not just for her husband, but in understanding her place in the civilian world and who she is as a woman. From personal experience, I can tell you that's tough -- figuring out who you are, your desires, needs, wants, and reconciling them with your morals and values and everything you were raised to be. We don't always become who we were taught to be. We outgrow certain things. Our own sense of right and wrong asserts itself over our parents' and teachers' versions. And our sexuality blossoms into something beyond the simplistic "birds and bees" discussion/instruction from our teens. Greyson has a hard time merging who she is with her wants and needs and facing her parents and brother with the woman she's become. Add on the sticky situation her husband, Caden, is in, which on the outside resembles abuse, plus his fragile, volitile at times mental health state, and she's a woman living in a constant state of fear.
Now that I've just psychoanalyzed the characters, you should know I only do that when characters are real to me. And Reiss has very masterfully made real people out of Greyson and Caden, and Colin, Jenn, Ronin.
My only wish for her writing was more focus on body language and facial expressions (the way Colin's face changed briefly when Jenn got close is a perfect example of what I'd like to see) instead of minutiae, such as where in a pitcher of water a lemon is resting (the scene in Ronin's office). Especially in a book so full of psychology. Our bodies do more than half our communication.
But then, I have this complaint with most authors. So it's definitely not personal, just an editor's wishful thinking.
I highly recommend this series, even though I hate cliffhangers and I have to wait for July and August to finish. 😊
Hold onto your bra straps and belt buckles, dear readers, because CD Reiss has only begun to play your eighty-eight keys.

You will get some answers to the cliffhanger for Rough Edge. You will learn more about Greyson, Caden, and Damon because CD Reiss continues to develop her characters, always moving them forward, always progressing the narrative. You will gain more insight into Greyson and Caden's (and Damon's?) marriage, and you will understand these people better.

You also will be increasingly frantic to find out MORE.

CD Reiss leaves you wanting MORE.

More of Caden. More of Greyson. (Some of you may want more of Damon, but I'm angry with him right now and want NO MORE.) More answers.

More sexy times because those scenes are intense, scorching hot, and almost feral in their intimacy. You definitely will want more of THAT.

You will gasp over the cliffhanger. You might even shout an expletive or two because that ending means you have to wait until Broken Edge, the next book.

Seriously? I bought it without looking at the number of pages! $4.99 for 234 pages. I read this in a few hours and then the book ends. For what reason? Money? Keep it! I’m returning the book and not reading on. I also won’t be reading anything else from this author. SPOILER ALERT nothing happened in the book. Long drawn out NOTHING! There is no reason for the book to have stopped where it did.
